Your customers are always dealing with two basic factors: sunlight and water. But, climate change has made both of those factors more extreme and unpredictable.
So, what can commercial fruit growers use to protect crops and livestock from excessive heat and radiation from the sun? Shade netting.
Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences published an article last year titled, “Orchard Netting: A Catch All for Climate Change.”
Highlights from the article include how netting helps with:
- light interception
- sunburn damage
- water conservation
Further research is now being done at the university to assess what other benefits fruit orchard netting can have on:
- light manipulation
- tree physiology
- fruit quality and size
